MAHIKA KAI

An award-winning short documentary exploring Kāi Tahu food-gathering traditions and cultural regeneration. Filmed in Wānaka and produced with GARUWA, Monster Children Films, and Lake Wānaka Tourism, the film has been celebrated for its “poetic and aspirational energy” and “spiritually resonant” storytelling.

Winner of Best Short-Form Documentary at the 2025 Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Awards, MAHIKA KAI has screened at Māoriland, Darwin International Film Festival, Underdog, SXSW Sydney, St Kilda, and will feature at Aesthetica Film Festival in the UK later in 2025.
